Project Description
“Deploying Europe’s largest marquees in such a prestigious and challenging location has only been possible with the support of the University’s expert contractors. As our Graduation technical production provider NUB have given a first class service.
Their expert pre-production and planning, and their high level of execution have hugely contributed to the successful running of our 18 annual award ceremonies and additional supporting events, including gala dinners, which are in total attended by up to 30,000 people each year.
NUB provide technical advice and innovative solutions and their equipment and service have been highly reliable; they react quickly to last minute changes in specification and requirements, including providing additional equipment and personnel as required. They provide a personal approach and a high standard of management on site, including Health and Safety, and are able to work in all weather conditions, including the high winds and heavy rain we have experienced on the Hoe.”
Every year, thousands of Plymouth University Students graduate from Undergraduate and Post Graduate courses onto their next steps in life. These graduations are hosted in some of the largest temporary marquee structures of their type located on the iconic Plymouth Hoe. Working alongside Kaos Productions, Nub have provided AV services for the graduations and associated events for a number of years since the event’s inception in 2008. The marquees are divided into 5 sections over two structures. Nub provide all Sound, Lighting, Rigging and Technical Comms systems for the event.
The requirements for audio and lighting are simple, comprehensive and discrete. Nub deployed all flown PA systems throughout the marquee to achieve this end result with over 20 speakers flown in the space providing announcements throughout with additional headroom for music playback and VT in the larger spaces. Nub achieved this with a minimal variation in level within the space and good spill control outside of the marquee. Coupled with Temporary Induction Loop Systems installed and tested to IEC60118-4 in the graduation hall enables all patrons to clearly hear the proceedings. Lighting for the event came in the form of a large amount of TV quality white light rigged discretely on masked trussing on the stage allowing the ceremony photographers and videographers to capture every moment of the event seamlessly.
Other events in the marquee included the council’s “Star Awards” celebrating excellence in the workplace and a number of faculty welcome events for new students. Nub worked with the teams delivering these events to provide seamless technical production ensuring a stress free evening for all involved.
