Nub provided a bespoke architectural lighting package to enhance the aesthetic of the stunning Palace Court site for it’s launch event in Plymouth City Centre. Plymouth College of Art is an independent art college founded in 1856 with the goal of providing a distinctive, innovative and supportive learning community in contemporary arts practice. In September of 2015, the college acquired a new site, Palace Court, located between their main campus and the historic barbican. This building was refurbished to create spaces designed to meet the needs of modern art, design and media students. Now complete, Palace Court is the first dedicated Extended Diploma campus at an art school in the South West.
Having opened to students in September, the formal opening ceremony was to be carried out by the Lord Mayor of Plymouth at the start of November. The college’s event team contacted Nub to provide lighting with the aim of enhancing the already stunning visuals of the newly refurbished building. The brief was provided to create an illuminated pathway leading visitors down towards the front door and uplighters around the space highlighting the texture and fabric of the building.
Nub provided a combination of festoon lighting and outdoor IP65 rated LED uplighters. These were installed in the grounds of Palace Court in only a couple of hours and were all controllable from a fully programmed lighting desk. A technician was on hand throughout the event looking after the equipment and ensuring everything ran according to plan. LED uplighters provide a safe, high impact, low cost solution to architectural lighting of buildings of any size.
